A HEALTH fair will be held at Grantham Hospital on Wednesday to draw attention to the work of its acute medicine team.

A hospital team is using Wednesday as the first national Acute Medicine Awareness Day to raise awareness of the work of the emergency assessment unit (EAU) and the departments which support it.

There will be a range of stands offering information on a range of health issues from heart disease to nutrition, with members of staff on hand to answer questions and give advice.

Consultant physician Dr Shirine Boardman said: “We are excited about this event and see it as an opportunity for members of the public to come into the hospital and find out more about the work of the acute medicine service.

“We want to open our doors to encourage the public to find out more about what we do, to learn about the support that is available if needed and to get advice on what everyone can do to stay healthy.”

Also planned for the day are oxygen testing, resuscitation demontrations, and talks by members of voluntary life-saving organisation LIVES.

In addition to the stands will be a cake fair to raise funds for a new portable ultrasound machine. The cake fair will be held in the EAU day room and outpatients department from 2pm, while the health fair will be held outside the EAU department between 2pm and 4pm.

All are welcome to go along to the fair.
