Re-name Guildhall after Mrs Thatcher

Grantham should have some form of recognition of the fact that the UK’s first female Prime Minister came from this Town.

However, I have no doubt that a statue placed in any open public area of the town will sadly attract some considerable unwanted attention from those who don’t share my opinion.

Can I suggest that the Guildhall Arts Centre be renamed - The Margaret Thatcher Arts Centre, and that a suitable small statue be placed inside, where it will be offered some form of protection.

There are few things more despicable than internet trolling. Let us just hope that the council's proposed 5000 pound surcharge, payable by all pensioners with a green bin, to finance the solid gold statue of Lady T strangling a kitten will help put a stop to such things.

How come there was no public outcry for a memorial for her until a film was made about her? It now reeks of the taint of greedy self service, rather than paying any kind of tribute to her. As much as I disliked her politics, I can't help but feel that the film and the can of worms it opened was cruelly mistimed! Regardless of what she once was, she is now a very ill and frail old woman. Could she not have been left to live out her days in peace before people decided to stir the pot and unleash all this (in my honest opinion, well deserved) vitriol against her? How unfair for anybody, to reach old age with hatred on one side and only money grabbing, manipulation on the other! :(

It would seem that on top of closing half the shops in Grantham, Joe Adkins is in favour of closing down the Guildhall Arts Centre. Lets not forget that less than half of the voters in her Finchley Constituency voted for her and that there is no statue of her there in her Honour.

What nonsense. If the Guildhall Arts centre is named after anyone it should be someone who has accomplished in the arts - not politics. We have had plenty of them including Jason Lai, Nicholas Maw, Richard Todd, Colly Cibber, Paz Pashley or even author of Rotten Borough, Oliver Anderson.

Why should anything in Grantham be named after this individual. She departed the town as soon as she was able, very rarely returning. She was even ashamed of her local accent which she attempted to eradicate by taking elocution lessons. Only when she became exasperated did she forget herself and use local expressions such as 'frit' . A word that anyone placing any kind of statue of her in a public place would be well aware of because of the consequences of her socially divisive policies within the UK
