A POPULAR family event is set to return on Sunday in celebration of St George’s Day, as will the annual Scout Parade.

Grantham Events Group, with support from South Kesteven District Council, will once again hold a family fun day in St Peter’s Hill, with a host of activities and attractions planned.

There will be children’s rides, a Punch and Judy Show, morris dancing, a bouncy castle, owl sanctuary display and a market.

Plus, visitors can take a close look at a steam traction engine, Aveling and Barford road roller and a London bus.

Ged McKnight, a member of the Grantham Events Group, said: “We want everyone to come out and enjoy it. Hopefully, the weather will be as good as the last few years.

“Everybody who has been to the event in the past few years has had a wonderful time. It’s a great event for the community.

“The fact that it’s not just English people in the town that get involved is great. Foreign visitors come down to see what it’s like to be English.

“It’s an event for everybody.”

Pupils of Isaac Newton Primary School will be putting on a play for the crowds, and will also demonstrate Maypole dancing.

Live music will be played throughout the day, including a performance by Paul Wilson who will raise money for Help for Heroes.

Meanwhile, well-known DJ Major Swing will teach dance moves from the 1930s and ‘40s in Abbey Gardens, where he will also exhibit memorabilia from that era.

The St George’s Day family event will take place between 10am and 5pm.

l Also taking place on Sunday is the annual Scout Parade.

Groups will gathers at the bus station before setting off at 2.20pm towards St Wulfram’s Church, going along St Peter’s Hill, High Street, Vine Street and Swinegate into the church.

The parade will walk the route in reverse at 4pm after a service.
