VIDEO: Trust creates ‘Diamond Wood’ at army barracks
THE Woodland Trust held a ceremony at the Prince William of Gloucester Barracks on Friday as it begins planting 2,000 tree at the site.
The charity is aiming to plant six million trees across the country in the run up to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The plans included 60 “Diamond Woods”, one of which will be at the Prince William of Gloucester Barracks.
Chris Hickman of the Woodland Trust said: “These trees, when they grow, will actually provide cover for the troops.
“So it’s about getting trees in the ground and also giving the army guys a facility to actually use when they are doing training too. So it works for us and it works for them.”
The ceremony was attended by Grantham Mayor Mike Taylor and chairman of South Kesteven District Council Mike Cook.
