lA lecture was given at the Congregational School Room on “earthquakes and volcanoes”.

lThe Journal reported how a man heard a rumbling noise “resembling an earthquake shock but for the time being he refrained from mentioning the matter”. Upon investigation, a large brick wall in Vine Street had collapsed. Two canaries were killed.

lThe annual fancy dress ball was held at the Forresters’ Hall. The best dressed lady won an umbrella. Costumes included a Father Christmas, a Highland lad and an Australian bush girl.
