lThe Queen was set to visit Grantham as the Journal went to press. A special dress rehearsal was held with Grp Off Jean Conan Doyle playing the role of the Queen.
lHundreds of children were set to line the Queen’s route but the Journal was expecting few flags as an investigation revealed it was “impossible” to buy a Union Flag in Grantham.
lAn inquest was held at Claypole into the deaths of two airmen killed when their aircraft crashed at Stubton. The men were told three times to abandon their plane but did not.
