Proficient cyclists at Central School picked up their certificates in 1960

YOUNG cyclists at Central School were awarded their cycling proficiency certificates at a school ceremony on March 5, 1960.

The pupils received their recognition from school governor Mrs Browse and under the gaze of policeman Jim Bridges.

The photo was brought in by Alan Tabiner, of Gonerby Hill Foot, who is first on the right.

He said: “I remember we were each given a pendant and a flag for our bikes after we passed.”

Those pictured include: Pete Gardiner, Pete Quanborough, Gerald Smith, Barry Dickenson, Spike Cranfield, Champ Hayes, Andrew Dack, Colin Sowerby, Ken Shelbourn, Alan Tabiner, Arthur Sentance, Angus McDonald and John Little.
