Mr D. Aldridge

MR Donald Aldridge, of Priory Court, Grantham, has died in Welbourn Hall Nursing Home, Welbourn. He was 79.

Born in Blaby, Leicestershire, he was educated at Wiggeston Grammar School.

His love of all things nature, led him into farming.

He served in the Army for three years, some of that time spent in Germany, before returning to farming. Later he branched out and took a smallholding at Harrowby.

Mr Aldridge then set up and ran Keymarkets Graden Centre. He then worked at Ogden’s until taking up full-time gardening, working as head gardener at Little Ponton Hall until his retirement.

Mr Aldridge had a love of travel and wine, which led to him taking many coach trips and he was also a nature lover. His family were important to him too, and he will be remembered for his knowledge, warm nature and above all his wit and sense of fun.

The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.

Family mourners included: Karen Aldridge, Carol Long, Bill and Nina Aldridge, Louise, Hannah, Gemma and Laura Sowerby, Robert Sowerby, Chris, Helen and Katie Andrews, Colin and Mary Andrews, Bernard Johnson, Freda and George Sheppard and Susan Sowerby.

Other mourners included: Mrs R. McCorquodale, Mr N. McCorquodale, Mr G. McCorquodale, Mrs K. Childs, John Hurt, Margaret McInnes, Stanley Birch, Pauline Milne, Brian Glover, Jill Kendrick, Peter Harrison, Lawrie and Chris Wickson, Mrs M. Christian and Mr and Mrs J. Asher.

Funeral arrangements were by Geeson Funeral Directors, Westgate, Grantham.

Donations were received for Cancer Research UK (£271) and Dementia Research (£140).
