Mr C. W. Parker

MR Charles William Parker, of Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire, and formerly of Elliot Close, Grantham, has died in Hull Royal Infirmary, Yorkshire. He was 92.

Born in Grantham in December 1919, he was the son of Tom and Georgina Parker.

He was educated at Spitalgate Boys’ School and on leaving there he started an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, following in his father’s footsteps.

A keen sportsman, he was good enough to play football for Peterborough United in the then Midland League. At the age of 23, the Second World War intervened and he joined the Royal Army Service Corps as a tanker driver and saw action in Africa, Italy and Greece. After the war he returned to building houses and helped build his former home in Grantham, while working for Fosters. He and his wife, Ada, lived there for 57 years before downsizing in a move to Barton-upon-Humber where he enjoyed his final years with his wife, exploring the local town area and wildlife parks. His interests included football, cricket, reading and watching television.

The funeral service was held at Scunthorpe Crematorium, conducted by Philip Spicksley. His ashes will be interred at St John’s Church, Manthorpe.

Other mourners included: Mr and Mrs D. E. Foster, Mr and Mrs M. Robinson, Mr and Mrs P. Bacon, Mr and Mrs A. Bedford, Mr and Mrs J. Allan, Mr and Mrs J. Darby, Mr and Mrs C. Kemp, Mr and Mrs J. Marshall, Mrs P. Eldred, Mr and Mrs J. Burrow, Mr and Mrs B. Routledge, Mr and Mrs G. Wilson, Mr and Mrs E. Ralph and Mr and Mrs N. Holdsworth.

Funeral arrangements were by Huteson and Sons, Holydyke, Barton-upon-Humber. Donations for the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK amount to £160 to date.
