MRS Audrey Constance Brian, of Chandos House Care Home, Gorse Road, Grantham, has died there. She was 87.
Born in Normanby by Spital, Lincoln, she was the daughter of Edric and Gertrude Hayes. Her father ran a grocery business in the village. She had three sisters, Eileen, Brenda and Jackie.
Mrs Brian won a scholarship to Lincoln Girls’ High School, where she became a Lindsey scholar. After leaving school, she went to live with her sister Eileen in Huddersfield, where she worked for ICI for two years.
She then returned to Normanby, where she taught as an uncertified teacher at the village school for three years. Her next job was as a personal assistant in Lincoln for three years.
Following a move to Wakefield she was employed as hotel receptionist at the Stratford Arms, where she met Jack and after moving to London, they were married. They had two sons, Tim and Nick.
When her husband was offered a job at The George Hotel, Grantham, the family returned to Lincolnshire. After settling in the town they had a daughter, Rachel.
Mrs Brian worked at The National School as secretary for 22 years until her retirement.
In her spare time she did charity work, including helping at St Wulfram’s Church and later working for the Red Cross at Grantham Hospital for several years, until ill health prevented this.
She was widely read and enjoyed poetry, listening to music and spending time with her family.
She leaves six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Canon Christopher Andrews.

Other mourners included: Trevor Kirk, Susan Parker-Johnstone, Pamela Parker, Jordan Backhouse, Christine Heron, Stella Hind, Veronica Wheeler, Joyce Simpson, Beryl Lilley, Doris Speakman, Angela Rose, Mr C. Hodson, Graham Brian, Ann Wild, Nicky Taylor, Lynn Kersey, Marjorie Nicholson, Chris Noctor, Sylvia Jay, Jeffrey and Marie Mitchell, Kevin and Barbara Hodson, Patricia Daniels, Carolyn Midgley, Anita Porter, Richard and Barbara Jeffries, Ian and Jackie Rutherford, Mrs M. Thomas, Doris Lewis, Sue Bumford, Tracey Spencer, Tina and Mark Dingley, Winnifred Stoner, Betty Stoner and Jenny Ward.
Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
Donations were received for Dementia UK.
