Mrs D. E. Stevens

MRS Dora Evelyn Stevens, of Bingham, has died in Grantham Hospital. She was 91.

Born in Kneeton, Nottinghamshire, she attended East Bridgford School.

During the Second World War she was in the ATS and she was very proud to have reached the rank of sergeant.

After the war she worked at Stanhope House Old Peoples Home and during this time she met her future husband, George. They later married and had two children, Patricia and Christopher.

Her family was very important to her and after her children had grown up she returned to work at Stanhope House and the Moorlands.

Mrs Stevens enjoyed knitting and making soft toys, many of which raised funds for various charities. She also like gardening and she had a great love of dogs.

The funeral service was held at St Mary’s Church, Bingham, conducted by the Rev David Harper. Burial followed in the cemetery.

Family mourners included: Patricia and Sid Joyce, Christopher and Lorraine Stevens, Anna and Alexis Stevens, Paul and Ramona Mellor, Graham Windett, Lee Colwill and M. A. Hogan.

Other mourners included: Brian and Anne Singleton, Dave and Lorraine Jones, Fiona Millard, Harold and Margaret Joyce, Eileen and Rob Sheridan, Suzanne and Ian Sims, John and Brenda Clayton, Katharine (Kay) Smith, Vivienne Bradbury, David and Audrey Baker, Danny and Julie Mulvany, Ann Ellis, Mary White, Joan Wakefield, Lorraine Munks, Linda Marshall and Brian Spencer.

Funeral arrangements were by William Roberts and Sons, Devon Lane, Bottesford.

Donations for Halfway House/Dog Rescue, Collingham, amount to £133.58 to date.
