MRS Gladys Joyce Calcraft, formerly of Grantham, has died in Lincoln County Hospital. She was 88.

She was the daughter of Fred and Gladys Read, of Harlaxton Road. Her grandfather and then her father ran Coultas’ timber merchants in Grantham, which later became English Brothers. Mrs Calcraft worked for the family firm doing clerical and secretarial work.

In 1952 she married John Calcraft and moved to Ruskington, where she lived for the rest of her life. They had a son, Michael, and a daughter, Ellen, and subsequently two grandchildren, Robert and Katie.

Her husband predeceased her in 2008.

Mrs Calcraft was an active member of Ruskington Free Church and belonged to Ruskington Women’s Institute. For some years she did voluntary work with the WRVS at Rauceby Hospital and Harmston Hall.

The funeral service was held at Ruskington Free Church, conducted by George Phillips, and Mrs Calcraft’s son-in-law, the Rev Philip Macdonald.

Donations were received for Ruskington Free Church and Sleaford Talking Newspaper, from which Joyce had benefited after being registered blind towards the end of 2010.
