Thursday, 5pm - A QUAD biking four-year-old is looking for somewhere safe to enjoy his hobby.
Bailey Smith, who lives in Larch Close, Grantham, hopes to find somewhere to ride without upsetting the neighbours with the sound of his bike's 100cc engine.

Bailey currently rides in a grassy area in Shaw Road, but his parents hope to find somewhere more suitable for him to go.

Mum Nicola Smith said: "It's quite a large area but it's quite close to homes and we don't to upset any neighbours or anything. We've been told we can have him on here with supervision, but we want somewhere that's proper for him, somewhere he can learn new skills."

Bailey, who also rides a motorbike, says his favourite thing about quad biking is doing "doughnuts" - spinning the machine around at high speed.

Nicola says that although she worries about Bailey's safety, she thinks he is confident and skilful enough to ride the machine.

She said: "I do get worried. The first time I saw him on it I was mortified. My partner put him on it and I came driving down the road and I though 'I'm sure that's my little boy on that bike'.

"I stood and watched him and realised he has the confidence and was going to be good at this.

"I've never heard of anyone younger than him riding a quad bike. Because he's confident and he's always got an adult with him he's going to be safe. We've got the right helmet and he's got his padded outfit.

"Falling off and and getting back on and starting again is part of learning."

A spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said: "Four is very young but it's down to the parents what they want their child to do.

"Anybody under 12 should be riding with correct supervision."
