Thursday, 5pm - POLICE battered down the door of a flat in London Road on Wednesday (Oct 1) night during a raid on the home of suspected drug dealers.
A team of ten plain-clothed police officers and a sniffer dog raided the flat at 8.20pm, using a battering ram to smash open the front door.
The officers found a quantity of white powder which has been sent away for testing and around £600 in cash hidden in a freezer.
A 33-year-old man from Grantham and a 26-year-old man from Caythorpe were arrested and were being questioned at Grantham Police Station on Thursday (October 2).
A 25-year-old woman from Grantham was also arrested. She has been released on police bail until October 29 pending further inquiries.
The operation was planned following intelligence gathering by beat officers and was headed by PC Nick Smith.
PC Smith said: "This was a good job and a good result. We were acting on excellent neighbourhood intelligence and we must thank the public for that.
"The intelligence was then verified using our own techniques and we successfully executed the warrant.
This goes to show what we can do with the help of the public. We rely on people informing us of suspicious activity in their street and the more residents provide us with information, the more we can act to improve our neighbourhoods."
The Journal was invited along to the raid which follows a similar operation at a flat in Sharpe Road in August. Police in Grantham are looking to send out a zero-tolerance message on drugs in the town.
A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said: "This raid is part of an on-going fight against drug dealing and abuse in the town. Clearly the problems we have do not compare to places like Nottingham but it is still a blight on our community and one officers are determined to tackle.
"The effects of dealing and addiction are clear to see for anyone living in the town and acquisitive offences like shoplifting committed by addicts make up a sizeable chunk of our annual crime figures.
"With the help of the public we can remove dealers from our streets, safeguard youngsters from entering a world of addiction and crime and work towards creating a safer place to live."
