GCSE joy in Grantham schools

Friday, 11.30am -STUDENTS in Grantham and the surrounding villages have had another record-breaking year for GCSE results.
Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School was celebrating its best GCSE results ever.
All pupils gained at least five A* to C grades - with 33 pupils achieving A* and A grades across the board. 57 per cent of grades at the school were A* or A, compared with 50 per cent last year and 43 per cent two years ago.
Headteacher Graham Burks said: "The girls have remained focussed thoughout the year, staff have worked hard and parents have been supportive. It's a winning combination.
"The results speak for themselves and staff have every right to be pleased with themselves."
It has been another record-breaking year for Walton Girl's High School.
Assistant headteacher Colin Beevers said: "We have achieved our best ever percentage of five or more A* to C grades, beating even last year's outstanding results.
"Every student has gained at least five subjects at grades A* to G, including English and maths.
"We are very pleased with these results. We are delighted for the many girls who have exceeded their targets. They can be extremely proud."
Star pupil Jade Coggins was the school's highest achiever.
At Central Technology and Sports College all students passed at least one GCSE and 63.4 per cent achieved five or more A* to C grades - above 60 per cent for the first time.
Students Lewis Cooper, Samantha Garrett and Josh Hutchins were the school's top performers, with 12 A* to C passes.
Headteacher Keith Atkinson said: "As a sports college the whole school community has been inspired by the performance of all of our athletes in Beijing and I feel that with sush a significant increase in our GCSE results, now well above the national average, I am like the manager of dozens of students who have all acheived gold medal results."
St Hugh's Maths and Computing College headteacher Trudy Brothwell said she was pleased with pupils' achievements.
Some 92.3 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to G grade GCSEs, with 42 per cent getting 10 or more A* to C grades.
Mrs Brothwell said: "We're highly delighted with the results. They show the commitment of the students and the hard work put in by the staff.
"There has been a very positive atmosphere and the students are delighted with what they've managed to achieve over the last two years."
Every pupil at Grantham Church High School walked away with a GCSE, with 32-40 per cent earning five or more A* to C grades.
Headteacher Robin Castle said: "I am delighted with the achievements of our students this year. We are incredibly proud of the fact that every single student achieved at least one GCSE grade."
King's School achieved a five A* to C pass rate of 97.7 per cent, with 51.5 per cent of passes at A* or A.
A number of students achieved outstanding results, including Anirudh Mathur with 13A*s. Jack Smith achieved 10 A*s ans one-and-a-half A grades. He also got an A at A-Level in Maths, after sitting the exam two years early.
Assistant headteacher Nigel Barton said: "We're all absolutely delighted with this year's GCSE results.
"We've had some outstanding performances at the top end and the vast majority have met the targets they set themselves.
"They can enjoy the remainder of their summer holidays before launching themselves with vigour at the challenge that lies ahead at A-Level."
At Charles Read High School in Corby Glen, 98 per cent of pupils passed five or more exams, with 49 per cent achieving at least five A* to C grades.
Headteacher David Airey said: "Once again pupils at the school have exceeded the targets set for them and every pupil left the school with academic qualifications.
"As a result we fully expect that our contextual value added score (the progress pupils make) will, once again, make us one of the top performing schools in the county.
"These results reflect the hard work put in by pupils and staff and the school is determined to continue moving forward and provide a first rate education for all our pupils."
There was also success for GCSE and NVQ students at Grantham College.
Grantham College principal Malcolm Saville said: "The college is pleased to offer a number of vocational GCSE/NVQ courses to students from local schools.
"Students take these throughout their last two years of secondary school, and have achieved particularly well this year.
"In addition, a number of other GCSEs have been taken by college students whose results are rewardingly pleasing.
"The main focus on GCSE results day however, is on other Level 2 qualifications where, again, we are very proud of the achievements of our students, and offer them congratulations on their success."
