ALTHOUGH the Guildhall was not packed, the small number of vacant seats didn't dampen the energetic enthusiasm of the cast, nor did it detract from the audience's enjoyment.
On Thursday 11th September 2008 I experienced the Harrowby singers at Grantham's Guildhall Arts Centre.

The curtain rose at 7.30 pm to a flash of colour and enchanting music which was almost lost by the audiences applause.

Seasons of Song was the show's title, which captured the audience's imagination, picturing the changing seasons with the aid of 39 different songs and a selection of dance.

They opened the show in the summer with a splash of yellow and white, naturally followed by flaming reds and subtle bonze to walk us through the falling leaves of autumn.

We entered winter picturing a flight over a blanket of crisp, white snow guided by the hand of a snowman 'Walking in the Air'.

Winter gave way to the green shoots of spring with sunshine and raindrops and 'Little April Showers'.

They brought us back to summer wanting us to leave 'Feeling Hot Hot Hot'. Certainly my hands felt hot hot hot after all the applause.

Roll on the next Harrowby singers performance!
