Reel: Humble robot holds key to saving mankind

Computer-animated cosmic comedy Wall-E comes to the Reel screen from today (Friday).
Mankind has quit the Earth but forgotten to switch off robot Wall-E - short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter - Earth class.

After hundreds of lonely years doing what he was built for, WALL-E meets a sleek search robot named EVE who realizes that WALL-E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet's future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans.

WALL-E chases EVE across the galaxy on a fantastic journey on which he meets hilarious characters including a pet cockroach, and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots.

There's a second animation treat in Kung Fu Panda. Po the Panda is the laziest animals in all of the Valley of Peace, but a big fan of Kung Fu, which doesn't exactly come in handy while working every day in his family's noodle shop.

Unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po's dreams become reality when he joins the world of Kung Fu. It features the voices of Jack Black as Po, Jackie Chan, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu, Ian McShane and Angelina Jolie.

Third new film, is a Thursday preview of The Dark Knight. Batman (Christian Bale) is back to face his arch-enemy The Joker (Heath Ledger) who has unleashed a new wave of crime across Gotham City.

There are continuing runs for Mamma Mia!, the story of love and music on a Greek island, and Single showings, tomorrow and Sunday of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
