There were two articles in the Journal recently that highlight the appalling state of health care provided in the Grantham area.
The first concerned the poor lady who had to give birth in a petrol station on the A607 after having been turned away by Lincoln hospital.
This should just not have happened, we are not a third world country.
Why oh why can we not have full ma
ternity services back at Grantham hospital where there is ample ward space to provide it?
The second article concerns the slow run down of the A&E services at Grantham and the imminent retirement of Dr Garrick.
Grantham is a town of 40,000 inhabitants with a very large catchment area of outlying villages.
The presence of major road and rail links increases the need for full A&E services.
We pay an awful lot of tax these days, why cannot patients get the service they pay these taxes for at their local hospital, not some pie in the sky promise of a service more than 25 miles away at Lincoln or Boston.
You include a quote from David Boldy, the medical director of the Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS trust
He said: "We are committed to providing high quality care to the community we serve and take issues of safety extremely seriously."
How can he say that when we have children being born on the side of the road for the lack of a local full maternity service?
How can he say that when we have people injured in car accidents close to Grantham who are them moved halfway across the county for the lack of full A&E services at Grantham?
