I LAUGHED out loud on reading Two years left to save maternity unit (Journal, May 2).
My daughter was in the care of Grantham midwifery unit up until she had a few problems with her pregnancy. Not through choice, she was transferred to the care of Lincoln Hospital.
As we do not have transport, and according to one midwife ambulances are in short supply, we spent the last couple of months of the pregnancy – which should have been a happy time – worrying about whether everything would be OK and would she get an ambulance.
Fortunately, my granddaughter was born safely in Lincoln Hospital.
It says in the article that many firsttime mums or those with complications use Lincoln Hospital.
I am almost certain that they do not choose to. Who in their right mind would travel over 40 miles during labour?
Bring the doctors back to Grantham!
