* IT is with great regret that despite the assurances previously made by Mr Edwards and other officials of the SKDC planning department, the council has capitulated and agreed to the tragic loss of the imposing and significant building of Manthorpe Lodge.
There is no denying that something needs to be done with the site which has been allowed to deteriorate too far already.

It is conceivable (and the opinion of many) that this has been a deliberate ploy to strengthen the case for demolition rather than conservation and preservation. We have seen this matter degenerate in to a charade and perceive it to be a hollow gesture to fulfil a planning process and to be recorded in the council archives.

If this process really is not a sham and if our confidence is to be restored, all we ask of our planning committee is to have the moral courage and backbone to stick to their original decision.

Members of the planning committee; who appear keen to abdicate their responsibilities to a higher authority, do not have to live with the direct consequences of their decisions but we do.
