I READ with interest about the plans for a new town estate between Barrowby and Grantham Road, Gonerby Hill Foot.

When are the town planners going to wake up and smell the coffee – 1,800 new homes?

Persimmon and Bovis and Redrow have just laid off hundreds of builders, estate agents in town are feeling the pinch, mortgage lenders have their hands tied, Fenland Foods is closing, and shops in town are closing at an alarming rate.
There is not enough work for our current population of 53,000 let alone 60,000.

I estimate a conservative increase of 15,000 extra cars if we increase our population to 60,000 and our road infrastructure cannot manage now.
Our town planners are living in a different world from the rest of us.
We need investment in manufacturing and retail first. Then we need investment in our roads then we need new homes not the other way round.
