I would like to take this opportunity to bring to the attention of your readers the disturbing news that has come to light in recent weeks.
Following hot on the heels of the Spanish developer Iberdrola/Scottish Powers application for 6 wind turbines at Neslam Farm, Sempringham, we now have information that a group of Wind Farm development companies have approached The Crown Estates propo
sing substantially more turbines in the areas around Billingborough. The agents for The Crown, Carter Jonas in Peterborough have sent letters out to local tenant farmers informing them of this proposition.
As predicted, some time back when Iberdrola reared its ugly turbine head, that this is just the beginning and we would undoubtedly be swamped by wind farm applications and low and behold the flood gates have opened and the fenlands will soon be flooded with massive industrial structures, some 125m high, that are visible for many miles, that have no place in the unique flat agricultural landscape of this area. How can we just sit back and let this happen? We must protect our heritage.
The developers (often foreign companies) are given huge subsidies for these wind power developments, they can then charge the National Grid a high price for the small amount of power produced, which of course is transferred to our already increasing fuel bills. But it will save the planet you may think !!
Think again, the small amount of unpredictable energy produced does so little to help it is not worth destroying our country side for and will never replace conventional power stations because they need to be constantly running as back up when the wind is not at the "right" speed for the turbines to produce energy. Please don't sit back and let this happen, use your right to oppose.
