The A52 junction with Rectory Lane, Barrowby, was closed from 10pm Friday evening, and was closed for the whole of the weekend.
Common sense would have dictated that the contractors place a Road Closure sign in the middle of the village, BEFORE vehicles entered Rectory Lane.
Alas, this was not so. For the whole of Saturday and Sunday, a steady stream of cars, plus some coaches and HGV's, entered Rectory Lane heading towards the A52. On Saturday mid-afternoon a contractors' vehicle came along to check what was happening.
The passenger was on the phone and gave a grin and off they went - obviously unconcerned about the inconvenience and disruption caused over the whole weekend by their incompetence and neglect. The photograph (taken by me early Sunday afternoon) records a HGV having travelled into the roadworks, only to have to reverse all the way back to Rectory Close.
Other vehicles having read my temporary sign turned wherever they could - more often than not into the Green Acres residential home entrance.
