Father Christmas has become a regular at the Royal Queen pub in Grantham.

He pops in every Saturday to enjoy a pint with the locals before taking a seat in his grotto.

The grotto is a new venture by pub tenants Mandy Haynes and Andrew Clarke, to encourage families into the Belton Lane pub during the quieter winter months.

Mandy said: “A family pub is what we’re trying to achieve. That was the general aim in doing the grotto, plus people just don’t do this sort of thing anymore.”

Youngsters can visit Santa for just £1, plus there will be a Christmas disco with games such as pass the parcel and musical statues adding to the fun.

Mandy said the grotto has been very popular, with 30 children visiting the first week and 45 the second.

She added: “It’s been fantastic. We’re going to do it for the community every year.”

The Royal Queen’s Santa’s Grotto is open tomorrow (Saturday) and December 22, between 2pm and 5pm.
