Have your say

THESE wonderful images take us back in time to Ancaster in the early part of the last century.

Regular contributor Mansell Beard provided this collection of images of the village’s Angel inn.

The stone inn was built in the 18th Century and became home to Edward Porter and his large family in the early 20th Century.

In 1926 Edward’s son Fred became the landlord, and he lived at the inn with his wife Lilly and daughters Joyce and Betty.

The pub had a large farmyard and stables at the rear, as well as a field where the village feast was held.

Sadly the Angel was demolished in the early ‘60s to make way for the Angel Court complex.
