FOLLOWING last week’s photos of staff from Springfield Secondary School comes this picture of the school band from 1963.

The photograph was sent in by Barrie Tupper who is pictured on a chair on the extreme left of the photo.

Barrie said: “It started off as just a laugh but I’ve had a musical career out of it. My instrument was the euphonium and I still play it to this day.”

The school closed just one year later after the picture was taken and Barrie was forced to finish his secondary school education at St Wulfram’s.

But he has fond memories of Springfield Secondary.

Barrie said: “It was a marvellous school and everyone enjoyed themselves.

“There was great sadness when it closed.”
