CORONATION day celebrations in Grantham saw the combined Army Cadet Force marching along the High Street.
This photograph was taken on June 2, 1953 with the Grantham and Sleaford cadets being led by Drum Major Neil Trotter.
The photograph was sent in by Jim Shortland of Alexandra Road, Sleaford who is able to put some names to faces for us.
Jim was the solo drummer while in the third row, first from the right is Ronnie Watson of the Royal Army Pay Corps.
Jim said: “He was home on leave and before being called up for national service was the solo drummer in the Sleaford band.
“He joined the band just for the day - notice he is wearing Khaki belt and gaiters as used by the regular army.”
Ronnie Watson’s father, Tom Watson, was the band master and formed the Sleaford band in the early ‘50s.
Jim said: “I wonder if there are any members of the Grantham ACF still around that took part in that parade.”
