THESE fascinating photos were brought into the Journal office by Memory Lane regular Michael Matsell.
Michael, of Redcliffe Road, Grantham, came across the snaps while looking through his collection of old photos, and wanted to share them with Journal readers.
The first is of a group of what he believes are grocers, or provisions merchants as they were known back then.
The photo was taken by Walton Lee and is stamped with a London Road address. Lee moved to St Peter’s Hill in the 1930s so the photo was taken before then.
Workmen feature in the second photo. Taken in 1917, Michael believes the men could have worked on laying the railway.
