STEP aside Take That - here’s the popular 70s Grantham band That’s That.

The trio - made up of Andy Garton (drums and vocals), Jeff Davidson (bass guitar and vocals) and Chris Holmes (lead guitar and vocals) - were on the Grantham music scene in the 1970s.

The photo was sent in by Grantham music scene historian Stan Matthews.

The Journal caught up with drummer Andy Garton to shed some more light on the photo, which was taken for the band’s first album, Well That’s That.

Andy explained how the band was originally a duo with himself and Tony Watson before Chris Holmes made it a trio.

Andy said: “When Tony decided to quit, we held auditions at the Shirley Croft and along came Jeff Davidson. The line up of the band stayed that way for some years with the band turning professional and signing a five-year contract with Johny Jalland Agency.”

Over the years Andy and Chris stayed with the band with various performers making up the third man. That’s That released Warts and All before disbanding and reforming several times.

The curtain was finally brought down on millennium night.
