FORMER Grantham Mayor Ivan Dawson is pictured this week.

The photograph was sent in by Mrs Turner, who lives next door to Mr Turner’s widow, Jean Dawson.

Ivan Dawson was mayor in 1976 and is pictured here putting up decorations in preparation for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebrations.

Mrs Turner said: “They had a street party in Hobart Road.

“His greatest moment as Mayor of Grantham was promoting the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.”

Mr Dawson sadly died whilst on a town twinning trip to Sankt Augustin, in Germany, in December, 1985.

Mrs Turner said: “I remember Grantham put the flag at half mast when he died.

“They had to fly his body home.”
