GRANTHAM Cricket Club narrowly missed out on their first ever Thompson Cup victory after losing by just five runs to Belton Park in 1991.
Belton Park’s innings got off to a shaky start but was rescued by Coleman and Sheardown, Coleman hitting a game-high 51 runs.
In reply, Grantham lost opener Paul Dowman for a duck but rallied thanks to his brother Matthew Dowman nitting 31.
But Grantham’s innings stalled when Matthew was caught in the deep. In the end, Grantham were stranded five runs short of Belton Park’s winning total of 120.
It was Belton Park’s first win in the competition since 1975
Grantham’s team was made up of: M. Dowman, P. Dowman, C. Strickland, N. Dowman, J. Marsh, M. Loveless, S. Fordham, J. Martin, I. Marsh, D. Fordham and M. Amos.
