We’re grateful to 98-year-old George Gregory for providing this latest snap from Aveling Barford.

Mr Gregory was the chief instructor at Barfords and recalls: “I started up the training centre. We only had two instructors but we built it up over the years.”

Mr Gregory recalls being very busy.

He said: “We were training 40 apprentices a year.”

Mr Gregory started at Barfords in 1939 and believes this photograph shows the first apprentices in the training centre in 1964. He is pictured on the extreme right.
