The summer of 1988 saw Grantham’s Under-15s side win a cricketing six-a-side competition at the first time of trying.

The side swept the Barnack six-a-side shield with a series of convincing wins.

The preliminary games saw Grantham’s youngsters restrict Nassington and Barnack to just 40 runs before, in both cases, Matthew Dowman hit more than 20 unbeaten runs to secure a well-deserved victory.

In the semi-final Grantham put 60 on the board with Chris Lane hitting 28 – five fours and one six – off nine balls while Market Deeping fell for just 28.

In the final it was Duncan Bateson’s turn to shine. He hit 20 not out in reply to Stamford’s score of 35.
