This picture of children at Earlsfield Primary School in 1955 was sent in by Barry Ogden, who is picture on the top row.

Barry signed off his message to Memory Lane “Happily retired in Costa Rica,” so how did a former Grantham schoolboy - and the son of a mayor of the town to boot - end up in South America?

Barry said: “I lived in West Avenue which backed onto Meres Lane across which I would run to school at five minutes to nine, always being almost late for school. I went to the King’s School from 1955 to 1962 and was hired by GEC in Coventry as a student apprentice studying industrial accounting.

“My father, Montague Ogden, was a councillor for many years and mayor of Grantham in 1966-67. My mother died in January 1967 and her funeral was on my 23rd birthday.

“My first wife grew up in East Africa and moved to England, however she didn’t like England so in 1971 we moved to Canada. My wife and I split up and my present wife and I lived in Edmonton for six years and Calgary for 29.

“As I got older, shovelling snow in 35 degrees below lost its charm so we decided to retire to Costa Rica. Now I take it easy and play in two rock/blues bands for fun.

“My music career started just before my ninth birthday in the Ruston and Hornsby brass band playing cornet.

“With the help of Anne Baker, née Harnett, now living in Georgia, USA, we have been able to identify most people in the picture.

“About 18 months ago I read on the Journal website about a KGGS student who was going to Nicaragua. I congratulated her, and Anne saw my comment and emailed me saying she went to Earlsfield school with me. For some reason she is not in the photograph. We stay in touch by email.”

Barry and Anne would be interested to hear if anyone can identify the names missing from this line-up: Top from left, Beverly Edwards, Jean Mitchell, Terrence Brown, John Whiteside, Derek Hobson, Clive Ladds, Barry Ogden, Terrence Musson, Gordon Raynor, Joyce Cooper, Ann Dickenson?, Raymond Glover, Ronald Kirk, Alfie Gibbons, Tony Banks, Jackie?, front, Irene Grey, Sheila Dring, Mary Woods?
