WE believe all of the men pictured here helped build Grantham’s first Woolworths in the 1930s.
The photograph was sent in by Marion Longland of Harrowby Lane, Grantham. Marion’s father is pictured in the centre of the photograph wearing a trilby.
“They turned what was the post office in the Market Place into Woolworths.
“He also helped build the Woolworths in the High Street so he built the first and the last. He was treated very well by Woolworths.”
Mrs Longland’s father travelled all around the country working on Woolworths.
She said: “He built one in Swansea at the beginning of the Second World War. It was only open a short while when it was bombed.”
