A LOOK at the programme from the very first Grantham Carnival (or Gala Weekend as it was then known) courtesy of Mike Corby.
Mike saved the programme from July, 1975, which gave details of all the events over an extended three-day weekend.
On Friday evening there were children’s races and a disco before the main events on Saturday.
Ten different bands were part of the parade including Grantham Town Band, Melton Toy Soldiers Band and The King’s School Band. Floats were entered by, among others, Grantham FC Supporters’ Club, 2nd Grantham Scout Group and National Junior School.
Later in the day there was six-a-side football, a tug-of-war and an “It’s a Knockout” event.
Highlights of Sunday were a tropical fish show and a cricket match.
Inside the programme was a photograph of the management committee and a striking advert for Carol Edwards Fashion Gallery in Grantham.
