THANK you to all the readers who got in touch following last week’s Memory Lane photograph showing schoolchildren forming giant numbers.
We’ve had a few people get in touch to point out the occasion was the Grantham Borough centenary celebrations.
But a special thank you to Boris Bennett of Greyfriars who has supplied a host of other picture postcards from the same day. Boris was one of the Spitalgate Boys’ School pupils in the pictures.
Boris said: “The occasion of last week’s picture was a re-run of Spitalgate School’s display which had taken place in Wyndham Park playing fields, along with the rest of the town’s schools. The location of these photographs is the London Road football and cricket ground, now sadly lost to a supermarket.
“In the group photo, I think I can recognise a few old mates and also teachers.”
Mrs Bispham, wife of the headmaster at King’s School, is pictured in the centre. She helped train the children for the day.
