WELBY Cricket Club triumphed in the Pattinson Cup Final of 1993, seeing off Sleaford Legionnaires over two innings.
The Welby side hit 91 in their first innings, with Stu Whatton scoring 34, before bowling restricting the Sleaford side to 80-6. Alan Blond was the hero of the first innings, grabbing a hat-trick to stifle Sleaford’s run chase.
Welby managed 99 runs in their second innings, leaving Sleaford requiring 111 from their batsmen.
For a time it looked like they might reach their target and by the final over Sleaford needed 13 to win. But more good bowling by Blond saw them manage only 7, gifting the trophy to Welby CC.
