RETIRED professional and business people can make new friends and get involved in community work as members of one of Grantham’s Probus clubs.
Probus began in 1966 and has since spread all over the country thanks to the efforts of Harold Blanchard in Caterham, Surrey.
Since then the clubs have gone from strength to strength..
It has become such a popular movement that Grantham now boasts four clubs - The Probus Club of Grantham, Probus 88, the Ladies’ Probus Club of Grantham and the ladies’ probus Club 96 of Grantham.
Members of Probus 88 recently held their annual festival luncheon at Belton Park Golf Club, welcoming 95 of its owns members as well as guests from other clubs in the town.
Magician John Taylor was guest speaker at the event and guests were welcomed by club president Roy Ingamells.
Vice president Peter Clark proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Taylor, while immediate past president Peter Hooper proposed a toast to the guests. Probus Club of Grantham president Lionel Royce responded on behalf of the guests.
Honorary secretary Robert Hardwick said: “Mr. Taylor is a very accomplished magician and amazed us all with his magic and feats of mind reading.
“The luncheon was a great success and enjoyed by all.”
