Thursday, 9am - ROCKABILLY lovers will be in for a treat when the music genre's top British act Jack Rabbit Slim blow into town on Saturday night. The shack should really be shaking when the high-energy four-piece combo take to the stage for a Halloween special at the Railway Club, off Huntingtower Road.

Formed five years ago, the Cambridgeshire quartet have quickly established themselves very much at the top of the rockabilly tree.

Known for the energetic, hip-shaking antics and unrestrained vocals of wild front-man Bob Butfoy, Jack Rabbit Slim have topped the bill at festivals throughout the world, including a highly-acclaimed appearance at Viva Las Vegas in America.

The band have three albums under their belts with Western Star Recording Company, all of which received rave reviews from the rock 'n' roll press and beyond, and a fourth is in the pipeline.

Jack Rabbit Slim list influences as diverse as Elvis, Morrissey, The Cramps,. Gene Vincent and Bill Haley, but their music could perhaps best be described as being like the Johnny Burnette Trio – but taken to another level.

The band perform many of their own compositions, songs that fit in seamlessly with carefully selected covers and re-workings of classic original numbers.

Bob's vocals and acoustic guitar are backed by double bass and drums, with the sensational Darren Lince picking out the riffs on lead guitar.

Jivers and boppers will be kept on the dancefloor between sets by Swing Bop Boogie rock 'n' roll disco.

The gig is organised by the town's Rock-inn Rock 'n' Roll Club and doors open at 7.30pm. Admission is 7 for adults and children are free.
