A CHARITY ball attended by Arsenal goalkeeping legend Bob Wilson raised £3,800 for the Willow Foundation on Saturday.

The ball at Belton Woods Golf Club was the latest in a long-running fund-raising drive led by a group of Grantham ladies to aid the Willow Foundation.

The foundation provides special days for seriously ill young adults.

Teresa Curtis helped organise Saturday’s event.

She said: “It was brilliant night.

“We were all delighted Bob could come along. He was really lovely and down to earth.”

Teresa has been raising money for the Willow Foundation for the past four years, ever since losing her brother, Christopher Curtis, to cancer five years ago.

The group have managed to raise over £30,000 for the charity since then.

She said: “It is a great charity because it can help give people a bit of normality back in their lives.

“It is a young person’s charity which we wanted to support because a few of us, like me and Sarah Copeland, lost relatives young.

“My brother was quite well known because he played for Grantham Town.

“He played when Martin O’Neal was in charge and when he was ill Martin came to see him. Another very thoughtful person.

“The one positive is that because Christopher was so well-known we can use his name to help other people.”

Saturday’s black-tie event was well attended, with Bob Wilson attending with his wife and brother.

Mr Wilson founded the charity in 1999 after losing his daughter when she was just 31-years-old.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the event a success.
