Time-worn homilies and rasping humour are the key elements of John A. Penzotti's delightful play Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench to be produced by St Peter's Hill Players at the Guildhall Arts Centre until Saturday, May 13.Set in New York's Central Park, it's the story of Anna, Eva, Rose, Gladys and LaLa, who have just two things in common – a park bench and a well-lived life.
Through fond and sometimes painful memories, keen observations and a good belly laugh now and again as they rake through the dying embers of their lives, these ladies are 80-year-olds going on 18.
Bound by each other's strengths, wisdom and witticisms, each one is unknowingly preparing for the day they will leave the park bench for the last time. Along the way they discover the Grim Reaper perhaps isn't so grim after all.
Directed by Valerie Griss it stars Polly Lewis, Debbie Taylor, Barbara Hurst, Sue Barnes and Tania Lambley.
Performances are at 7.30pm. Tickets at 6 are available from the box office (Tel: 01476 406158).
