Good menu, good service - but a watery filling let it down

FRIENDLY service with a smile is always great to see when you visit a restaurant or cafe, so I was pleased when my visit to Munch got off to a good start.

I popped along to the eaterie in St Peter’s Hill, Grantham, yesterday (Thursday), for a bite to eat at lunch-time.

The atmosphere in there is laid-back and the big windows give the perfect opportunity for a bit of people-watching.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have time for any of that, so I headed straight for the menu on the wall behind the counter.

Seeing I was umming and ahhing about what to eat, the man behind the counter stepped forward and helpfully lifted some of the lids to show me what lay beneath.

The marinated chicken caught my eye, and so I ordered a wrap. It came with fries and a drink, a meal deal for £4.70.

To be honest, I think that’s a little on the pricey side, although there was plenty to fill you up.

I was disappointed that the filling in the wrap was a little watery. It did taste nice, although not as spicy as I had expected.

The fries were spot-on, although I’m glad I grabbed a sachet of salt as an after-thought on my way out.

I didn’t order a dessert as I knew it would only end with me dropping off at my desk with a full tummy, so I settled for a look at the options available.

Nothing looked home-made, but they did look nice. There was a choice of Danish pastry, fruit loaf, carrot cake, chocolate cake and cookies. If none of those options are your cup of tea, you can choose from a selection of chocolate and cake bars.

There is also a wide variety of crisps and drinks available.

I was impressed with the diversity of the menu - diners could choose baked potatoes, sandwiches, burgers and more, plus there are breakfast rolls on sale in the mornings.

All in all, I enjoyed my lunch, although I couldn’t afford to eat there every lunch-time. At £4.70 for a meal deal, Munch is the place to go if you fancy a treat.

I look forward to sampling something else from the menu next time.
