One of the acts to appear at the Chairman’s Charity Gala on Friday, February 15, will be The Premier Cru, a four piece Grantham band who are about to go into the studio to record their second CD.

The songs are written by band member Barry Phillips and the disc will be released in the spring. It will support Prostate Cancer Research.

Barry said: “I think every man in the country needs to be more aware of what to do to avoid prostate cancer. We feel personally involved with the research.”

Barry said two of the songs on the CD will be Lady Anne, about Henry VIII’s second wife Anne Boleyn, and Who’ll Care, a song about a person with Alzheimer’s. Barry said: “I like the songs of Hoagy Carmichael, but as a band we play rock ‘n’ roll, and the songs have to have a strong melody. We play The Killers’ Human, Mary’s Prayer by Danny Wilson and Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King.”

The last disc the band recorded was called Our Boys. Barry wrote the songs for that album while on a trip to France, visiting First World War cemeteries and proceeds went to the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Fund.

The rest of the band is made up of Kevin Sheehan, lead guitar, Geoff Braunton on bass and John Tupper on guitar.

Barry and Geoff are both Rotarians and the band regularly supports local charities.
