The work of four local artists who took part in a life drawing course goes on display at the Guildhall Arts Centre in Grantham from Saturday (January 12).

The Newton Room will be hosting the exhibition of work by Michael Shields, Lynette Devlin, Ben Braddock and Sue Bagshaw who made drawings of male and female models in a variety of media from charcoal and pastel to inks. Poses lasted from one minute to two hours, so there is a mixture of expressively loose line drawing as well as more considered studies.

The classes were set up by professional artist Sarah Watson, who recently moved from London to Grantham. She said: “I think life drawing is the most liberating of artistic disciplines, and I wanted to pass on what I’d learned from classes at university and more recently from the London Camberwell School of Art. I like to create a fun and vibrant class, with lots of feedback and discussion from the students, encouraging their techniques to loosen up and flourish, so that their own styles emerge with more confidence and perhaps a broader perspective.

Sarah added: “I was really excited as soon as the course started when it became clear what talented artists I would be working with. I am thrilled with the results.”

The next eight week life drawing course with Sarah starts on Tuesday, March 5, at the Guildhall Arts Centre. To book a place, or for further information go to www.sarahwatsonarts.com or call 0774 811 0951.

The exhibition takes place from January 12 to 26 and is free to enter.
