SOUNDS of the Mississippi Delta and country blues will play at the Guildhall Arts Centre in Grantham on Wednesday.

Long-standing co-vocalists of The Blues Band, Paul Jones and Dave Kelly, will take to the stage at 7.30pm.

The duo will introduce their personal and individual approach to this dynamic set of classic songs from the blues giants of the past, explaining where the songs came from.

Both Paul and Dave are well-known in the entertainment industry.

In the years before The Blues Band launched, Paul had been working as a West End actor, also venturing on to Broadway.

In 1962, he declined an invitation to join the fledgling Rolling Stones from founder Brian Jones, and went on to join a group which later became Manfred Mann.

Pauls songs have been recorded by many well-known artists over the years, and he has also written music for films, television and adverts.

He has built friendships with many a big name, performing or recording with the likes of Tina Turner, Memphis Slim, Alexis Korner, Henry Gray, Alvin “Youngblood” Hart and Susan Tedeschi.

Then in 2001, Paul received the This Is Your Life book on BBC television.

Meanwhile, Dave’s career has followed a different path, but one which has earned him the reputation of a true blues craftsman.

Among his incredible life experiences are jamming with American blues star Muddy Waters in New York, touring with blues’ Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker, joining The John Dummer Blues Band and performing solo.

After 21 years in the industry, he is firmly established as Europe’s premier blues performer.

Tickets to the duo’s show at the Guildhall are £16 (£14). To book, call the Guildhall box office on 01476 406158 or visit www.guildhallartscentre.com
