Plenty of twists and turns in satire on class system

St Peter's Hill Players present Noel Coward's Relative Values at the Guildhall Theatre from Wednesday to Saturday, May 5.The plot is the age-old tale of the son of an aristocrat, in this instance a decent sort of idiot called Nigel, Earl of Marshwood, who announces his engagement to a self-serving Hollywood starlet Miranda Frayle, much to the chagrin of his mother, the true-blue Countess Felicity.
Miranda's former beau, Hollywood star Don Lucas, is pretty peeved, too, and turns up at the family seat just before the engagement party.
But then it is discovered that Miranda's pedigree may not be all it is cracked up to be.
A satire on the class system, the Master's pen, dipped in vitriol, lays bare to the bone all the nasty little secrets of aristocrat and servant alike.
Performances are at 7.30pm. Tickets at 5 for Wednesday, and 6 for other nights, are available from the box office (Tel: 01476 406158).
