The fledgling Grantham Youth Theatre Society presents Hot Mikado at Grantham College Refectory, Stonebridge Road, from Wednesday to Saturday, September 3 to 6.Written by David H. Bell, with music adapted and arranged by Rob Bowman, it is based on Gilbert and Sullivan's perennial favourite The Mikado, and while it keeps faith with the original plot it is updated to a 1940s-style big-beat production.
In an East meets West monumental clash the music is transmuted into blues, hot gospel, scorching torch songs and the Three Little Maids turned into an Andrews Sisters' show-stopper'.
It's an hilarious tale of love, marriage and corruption in local government which speeds merrily along, complete with executions, heroics, and some of G&S's most infectious tunes.
The show will be performed in a cabaret setting, with licensed bar and even a sealed-bid auction!
Doors open 7pm, show at 7.30pm: 6 (5): 01476 406158
