Monday, 1.45pm - THE A1 between Grantham and Stamford will be closed for 18 hours from 6pm tomorrow (Saturday) while a new bridge is installed as part of major road improvements.
The Highways Agency is installing the flyover as part of a new junction that will replace Colsterworth roundabout.
The bridge will be installed to the south of the roundabout and is expected to be in use by the late summer. The junction should be fully completed by the middle of 2009.
Engineers will close the A1 from 6pm tomorrow and the road is expected to re-open at around noon on Sunday.
The road will be closed to through traffic in both directions between the A607 Harlaxton Road junction at Harlaxton and the A606 junction at Stamford. Through traffic will be diverted via the A607 Harlaxton Road towards Melton, then the A606 through Oakham to rejoin the A1 at Stamford, or vice versa.
Highways Agency project leader Bill Birkett said: "This will be a real milestone for the scheme and road users and Colsterworth residents will soon get a real sense of how the finished scheme will look."
The road will be closed again in July for a second bridge to be installed at the A1's junction with the B6403.
