Tuesday, 2pm - CHILDREN from South Witham Primary School have been competing for a Golden Boot Award by walking and cycling to school.
Pupils collected points for each day they walked or cycled, and the class with the most points won the award. The coveted boot will take pride of place in the classroom occupied by Class 2.

The event is an annual one which Class 2 teaching assistant Janine Costello said the youngsters look forward to.

She said: "The children get so excited and they love cycling to school.

"The parents have been positive about it and they have definitely been encouraged to do it by the children.

"It was close but Class 2 won the Golden Boot Award. All the children got stickers for taking part."

The aim behind the Lincolnshire County Council run Golden Boot Challenge is to keep children healthy, reduce congestion outside the school gates and help the environment.

It is hoped parents will continue to leave their cars at home, and the school plans to replace a temporary bike shed with a permanent one.

A new footpath has been built to the back of the school using funding given from a successful bid to the parish council.
